Children’s Book Illustrations
“Learning About Nature and Wildlife”:
an illustrated Children’s Encyclopedia
For this project I was tasked with creating illustrations for the children’s book “Learning About Nature and Wildlife”. The project was a collaboration between myself, several other artists, and the author. Here you can see a few examples of my work for the project.
I was given the task to create images in a vibrant and sketchy painterly style, giving the impression of being hand-drawn and -painted, while still maintaining realism.
To achieve simultaneous stylization and realism, I drew the animals with correct proportions and used a color pencil-style brush, employing slightly saturated colors for the coloring.
“My best Buddy and other short stories”
This is a rough pencil-style illustration I created for a childrens short story book called “My Best Buddy and Other Short Stories”.
The book incorporated several different artist who were assigned to contribute illustrations for the various stories in different styles. My contribution was for the titular story “My best Buddy” about a boy and his dog.
Illustrating for children’s books is truly one of my absolute favorite things to do and I strongly believe that art filled with style, personality and uniqueness can greatly contribute to what makes an illustrated children’s book exceptional.
My preferred style to work in is one that is stylized, lively, colorful and overall joyous.
